Every once in a while, I’ll post a quick update on my projects, what I’m working on, and any updates to release dates, etc. I’ll update the “Upcoming Releases” tab at the same time. Here’s the first!
In the last couple months, I’ve been refocusing my work efforts. It all started with Nanowrimo, in November, just to get me back into the habit of writing every day (or as close to every day as I can manage.) My renewed blog efforts are part of this refocusing as well. But, most importantly, perhaps, I’ve narrowed my writing project focus. I like to have two writing projects in progress at any given time—one I’m focusing on heavily, and another that I work on when letting the first have a break. Part of the writing process for me includes short stints of time where I let a scene or a whole manuscript ‘marinate’ before picking it back up, reviewing what I’ve written, and then working on it again with fresh eyes. It’s an important step that has proven really beneficial for me in the past. So, right now, I’m primarily working on a semi-new project: a New Adult paranormal romance set in New Orleans (“Codename: CLOAK”, as it appears under “Works in Progress” on the Upcoming Releases page.) It’s the second book I’ve attempted to write that doesn’t take place in the Shift/Harbinger universe, which is both freeing and scary. I’d started this manuscript once before but while the idea was intriguing, it needed focus (see a theme forming here?) After some research and genre exploration that helped me redefine it, I’m back to it with renewed enthusiasm. I may attempt to find a traditional publisher for “CLOAK” as I think this story will have more mainstream appeal than some of my others (and because I like to think that I’m a better writer now than I was when I wrote SHIFT—certainly better than when I wrote Harbinger,) so it seems worth a try. Wish me luck!
My secondary project is, for now, this blog. And I work on the third book in the Mythologicals Saga off and on as well–it’s my guilty pleasure project that I just can’t seem to abandon for more than a few months at a time.
Speaking of Harbinger, though, my next big project (which I’ll likely start after finishing the first draft of CLOAK 2.0) is an overhaul revision of that very book. The story arc and plot have stood the test of time and subsequent books—the delivery and craft have bugged me for a long time, however, especially as it compares to Augury. I’m sure I’ll have all kinds of rants and updates as I work out all those kinks in the months to come, so stay tuned for that.
Those of you who are Harbinger and Augury fans, I’d actually LOVE to pick your brain about the books, their order, reading experience, etc. Shoot me a DM on Twitter or a message on Facebook so I know who you are!
I also need to redo the Shift Series paperback covers, but that’s another project for another time…
So what about you? What’s on your to-do list? Any big projects nagging at you until they feel bigger than they really are? If so, I know the feeling…
