Zander screamed.

Her chest shot up off the table, her back bowing and her neck stretching long in a contortion Scott knew he would never be able to get out of his head.

Then, all at once, her back slammed down onto the table and her screams ceased.

Cecily and Callum threw themselves on top of her.

Rhia began barking.

And Scott’s chest lit on fire.

Writing the exorcism in The Medium’s Possession was a long process that involved not a small amount of research. I purposefully didn’t follow one belief system, or retell one story, but wove threads from various sources into one scene that aligns with the way the veil, and mediums work in the Cloaked Series world. Cecily and Callum, as mediums, throw themselves on top of Zander as soon as the shadow leaves her as protection. Rhia (Callum’s spirit sensitive dog) begins barking as a warning that the shadow is loose. Scott is watching this whole thing as the only non-magical human in the room, blind–at least, that’s what he thinks. What happens next sends him on a new path.
