I listen to music while I’m in the process of writing a book. Well, let me revise that statement–I listen to music quite a bit in general, especially when I’m driving. It just so happens that I’m almost always in the process of writing or editing a book, too, so naturally songs often become attached to a specific story . I wrote a blog post on Tumblr about my writing process and how music plays a part where I explain it all in more detail.
The music for SHIFT all has a feeling of discovery, like the book. Most of it is pretty light and, emotionally, the songs center around Leah as she navigates the waters of this new life she’s been so unceremoniously thrown into.
